In Power BI, we have a report that is connected to data model pbix file using "Power BI Dataset" as data source option and we are implementing RLS for that specific report. We are able to successfully implement RLS but we want to know if there is a way to have a default selection for a field in page level or report level filter option or any possible way to force a selection for the field for the user when the report loads up with user specific role.
For example, for a user-X,we have a Role-1, for which we have values in a field as A and B. For user-Y, we have Role-2, for which we have values C and D. Now when User-X loads the report then field value should be selected as "A" by default while for user-Y loading the report then field values should be selected as "C" by default in the page or report level filter.
Is there a way to achieve this forced selection in the filters for the user when the roles based values are loaded for the field?
Hi @PollyPowerBI,
I have found a blog ROLE-BASED DEFAULT FILTER CONTEXT FOR POWER BI which may help to achieve your requirement.
Best Regards,
Cherry
From all my RLS implemnetation's I have not seen the feature wherein a selection can be made based on the user, I would imagine doing something with R or Python (now) might be a route to look into. RLS is only for data restriction and not data selection, but definielty a great idea to post and have in PBI.
One other way you could be innovative is to have another column which list the email of the users along with the needed slicer selection and maybe have RLS on that as well? In that way whenever a user logs in he/she only sees the necessary and applicable slicers.
