Visual grouping of data in column chart by date period

Hi,

Im trying to get data in my column chart with a clear visualisation of time period. Example would be chart with volume on y axis, various data points that are linked to a date on the x axis, and the chart to have vertical lines/shading to indicate grouping of the data points by time period. .ie: By quarter as below.

 *    *                                    *

 *    *   *              *                *

 *    *   *    *        *       *    *   *  *

 a    b   c   d   e   f   g  h   i    j   k

|Q1    ||Q2||        Q3        ||    Q4  |

Apolgies for makeshift chart. Couldn't upload an image. Any suggestions/advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi tspearman,

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display two level data on X-axis.

In this scenario, we can turn off the Concatenate Labels option, please refer to the following steps:

  1. Drag your data and date hierarchy (Quarter - month) to the visual, then sort the visual by Quarter Month.111.png
  2. Turn off the Concatenate Labels option in Format -> X axis -> Concatenate Labels.
    222.png
  3. Then click the “expand all down one level in the hierachy”, the result will like below:333.png

Best Regards,

Teige
