Visio Visual Field Word Wrapping
I have created a map of our facility that allows users to find a location and then zoom to it. The underlying data is in a SharePoint list. The map image was given shape data using Visio, and then those shapes are populated with data in Power BI. The problem I am having is that the employee names spill out of the shape and overlap names in adjacent shapes. The Field Mapping tab of the Visio Visual does not have a place for word wrapping:
If I open Visio, link it to my SharePoint list, and populate the occupant names before importing the Visio document into Power BI, that solves the problem. HOWEVER, I have not been able to find a way to keep the Visio document update to reflect changes. Turning on data refresh does not appear to work. Only opening the map in Visio, refreshing, then saving the map, allows Power BI to pick up the updated occupant names.
So, what I need is a way to prevent occupant names from overlapping if using Power BI Field Mapping OR I need a way to automate the Visio refresh.
I am open to other ideas and suggestions.
Thank you,
Hi DonMegel ,
As the Visio Visual in Power BI currently doesn't support word wrapping through field mapping and the available documentation does not clearly outline these limitations, I recommend submitting this feedback to the Power BI Ideas forum. This will help bring visibility to the issue and encourage the product team to consider enhancements in future updates.
I suggest submitting your detailed feedback and ideas through Microsoft's official feedback channels, such as Microsoft Fabric Ideas. Feedback submitted through these channels is frequently reviewed by the product teams and can contribute to meaningful improvements.

Unfortunately, Power BI Visio Visual does not support dynamic word wrapping via Field Mapping.
But, you can fix the text overlap by formatting the shapes directly in Visio before using them in Power BI.
Open your Visio file, right-click each shape → Format Shape → go to the Text Box section and enable "Word wrap text in shape." Adjust the shape size or margins as needed. Then link the shapes to your SharePoint list using Data → Link Data to Shapes, save the file, upload it to SharePoint or OneDrive, and use it in Power BI. This way, the text will wrap properly inside each shape.
There is no native auto-refresh of linked data inside a Visio file once it's uploaded.

Thank you, when I right click on the shape in Visio and select Format Shape, there is no category for Text:

Can you check the ribbon tabs? You might find an option related to text or word wrapping there. I haven’t used it much myself, but it’s worth a look.
