Even if this is an older document, it still holds true.
Regarding your 2nd question: as soon as you have added a country column, you can only filter for US companies. There are no "auto-generated" columns containing spatial information.
Regarding you first question, what is your expectation, do you expect that each company will appear as a datapoint?
As you can see, visualizing spatial information comes with some extra challenges:
