In my report, I would like to use a certain variable called ReportingPeriod. I would like to be able to manually set this variable, so it is not necessarily linked to today's date, last refresh date etc.
I looked at different options and found out that parameters within DAX is not possible. You can set a variable using VAR, but then it is not a global variable which can be used in other DAX measures. My current approach is to load a separate table which provides this ReportingPeriod.
Is this the best approach or am I overlooking something?
Do you have reporting period stored in a seperate table?
Seems like you have a table with data and there is another table called report period, if that is the case, you can join those table on reporting period (Assuming your data table has reporting period) and then put slicer from reporting period table.
If this understanding is incorrect, please share sample data and expected result.
