Urgent Clarification - Gateway

I have a report which gets data from multiple data sources. Can i set up gateway to get data for only one source? Example: I have report built out on SQL Server, Excel, Oracle. Now we have set up gateway on SQL Server but gateway for oracle is still pending. Can i set up automatic refresh only for SQL server? Because Oracle and excel data are static and doesn't change. Only SQL data changes. Please clarify asap

  • Hey,

unfortunately this is not possible as your dataset contains 3 datasources, all of the datasources have to be configured

The screenshot above shows a dataset that is just using 2 data sources but of course this is also valid if there are 3 data sources.

As the oracle and excel sources are static you might consider to "transform" the oracle data into Excel and put all the Excel files to onedrive for business, then it's not necessary to use a gateway for these files.

And I'm also wondering why you want / have to use 2 different gateways, as it's possible to configure more than one connections using the same gateway?

    Is the for performance reasons?

  • Good afternoon,

There is a few sections within the data refresh documentation that might be able to help point you in the right direction in regard to your question as you can parameterize your queries: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/refresh-data

This section is called "configuring query parameters" and it is located about 2/3 down the page.

    Best of luck!
