Update Power BI Desktop and Online

Hi guys 🙂

Im new Power BI user, and a have 2 questions!

First is: Currently I make changes to my dashboard/files using Power BI Desktop, and then I publish in Power BI Online...

But everytime i do it, my dashboard resets, because I'm uploading a new file (even though it's the same dashboard)...

And that makes people who have the access link to the dashboard lose their function and therefore I have to share it again with them!

Is there any way to make the changes in Power BI Desktop and just update your layout and fields in Online? keeping the same dashboard.

Remembering that I'm not talking about the database, but about changes in the layout for example, or the addition of measures and columns

Second is: Can I just share the dashboard, or can I also share the WorkSpace? Do you have any tips on how to share files with company employees?

Thanks Guys!!!

God Bless U 😀

Hi,

Yes you can create an APP with the reports that you want to share from the workspace and can share the APP link to the Users. This way you can manually share the link to the users.

But what I meant is when you give workspace access to the Users itself, there also will be an option to send an email notification about their access provision to the workspace along with the Workspace link. That link can also be used by the users to access the workspace.

On the link changes with every publish, I guess you are trying to share the file by taking the link in the top of the Power BI service when we open the report. Instead try to share the report by taking the link from the share option available for each of the reports. This I think will keep the link the same (link doesn't change even after republishing the data)

Hi @rafa97cteep ,

I not fully clear with your first ask. But one thing as far as I know is The Dashboards do not change automatically as your report is updated on the layout perspective. This actually gives a lot of flexibility with what you show in Dashboard and what you maintain in report. So you might have to manually update the dashboard with the new layout changes

On the second ask, there are a lot of ways to share your work. As you give access to a workspace you also get an option to let the user know that they are given access to the workspace and hence would be able to access the reports in it

On the Other hand, you can also share the dashboard directly to the Users. But it is better that the Users also have access to the underlying reports that are part of the Dashboard to avoid any issue for the users while accesing the dashboard

Have company employees with permission in Workspace, but idlike share the workspace link, has as?

For the first question

When i publish my dashboard i have a link to share with company employees! When i change the layout or add some information in same dashboard (In Power BI Desktop), i need publish it again... When i do that, the last share link dont work anymore (because its "new" dashboard), and i have generate a new link and send to company employees...

Idlike to know if there s a way to not repeat the process of generating a new link every time I have to do this process...

If there is any way for them to access the dashboard other than through the link, using the workspace for example

Thanks @Thejeswar

I will test using this feature!
Is it possible to share the Workspace link directly?

I am not sure of any other way you can share the workspace directly
