Can anyone tell me what type of visual this looks like? Someone gave me this image as an example of what they wanted to see, but I can't remember ever seeing this visual anywhere. Also, the image below was created in inDesign.

We don't have this kind of visual.
But it seems a combination of scatter and waterfall you can try to to play with this idea, both of them are available.
And there is an option not to show axises of waterfall
