Unable to turn-on hyperlink for columns when using direct query
- Anonymous10 years ago
Hi KKaki,
Firstly, no matter we connect to SQL Server via Import option or DirectQuery option from Power BI Desktop, Modeling Tab and Data Category don’t exist in Query Editor Mode.
Secondly, when we connect to SQL Server via DirectQuery option, there are some limitations, for example, only Report View and Relationship View are available in Power BI Desktop. For more details about using DirectQuery in Power BI Desktop, please review this article: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-use-directquery/ .
Thirdly, in your scenario, if you have the URL column, you can turn-on hyperlink for it in Report View. Please click the URL column in the Fields panel of the following screenshot, then you can click on Modeling in the Desktop ribbon and change the Data Category to Web URL.
Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Hi Anonymous,
is there a way to rename the hyperlink, it's highly uncomfortable having all these long URLs which I could simply rename as Link or Tracker, etc. ?
Thanks, Atanas

Anonymous, The whole issue is that in direct query the Data Category drop down is disabled (in the modelling tab). Did you create that screenshot with a direct query report ?

In direct query (connection to an SSAS Tabular Model) the Data Category drop down is disabled (in the modelling tab).
