Unable to save document .pbix is already open in Power BI Desktop or another program.

I have a particular PBIX file that I cannot save on a specific computer.

The PC that has the issue is running Windows 10 and Power BI Desktop v2.102.684.0 64-bit (February 2022).  The PC has a 12-Core CPU, 64GB RAM and about 750GB free of SSD space where I'm saving the file.

When I save this one particular PBIX I get an Unable to save document - .pbix is already open in Power BI Desktop or another program.

If I try and save a second time I get an error when saving, Cannot open package because FileMode or FileAccess value is not valid for the stream.

I have been able to open and save this file on another machine running the same version of Power BI but with less resources.

I'm also able to work with all other PBIX files without issue - it's just this one on a specific PC.

The PBIX was originally saved on SharePoint so I was able to revert to an older version that did work and prior to this issue first occurring.  I can no longer save the older version either.

I've reinstalled Power BI desktop 3 or 4 times with reboots in between and it hasn't fixed the issue.

I'm stuck - I really need to edit the PBIX on this specific PC but I get the save issue every time.  I'm pretty sure it's PC related note PBIX related.  It happened around 12th Feb 2022.  Not sure if that coincides with the Feb release of Power BI but strange that it works on another machine running the Feb version of Power BI.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Spotlamp ,

I cannot reproduce your issue. I can open and save pbix file successfully. My test Version: 2.102.683.0 64-bit (February 2022)

Could you please tell me what is your data source?  If you have open the pbix file successfully on the PC before? Have you ever tried to reboot your PC? Please check and end the task.

What is your connection mode? please note that time intellignece function is not supported for use in DirectQuery mode. For more information about limitations in DirectQuery models, seeData Analysis Expressions (DAX) Reference

If it is possible, please provide the pbix without privacy information so that we can study it.

I have also found a similiar post, please refer to it to see if it helps you.

Thank you but I tried all this and it doesn't work.  The issue is PC specific AND PBIX specific.  I can still use other reports that connect to the same underlying datasource in the same way without issue.

Unfortunately I can't share the file with you due to the sensitive nature of the data.

@Spotlamp , Right click on the file on the folder and open properties, and check if there is something that is stopping it from saving. I have doubt that

This solved the issue for me. The file was set to read only, very likely by One Drive, even though the sync was complete.

Good suggestion but that doesn't work.  The master file sits on SharePoint and can be opened and saved from other machines running Power BI - just not this one.

I have created a copy of the file and put it on my local C: drive - that didn't work either.

I have created another copy of the file and put it on OneDrive - that didn't work either.

I can open and save other PBIX files from the same SharePoint master folder without issue.

The file size is around 29mb - not sure if that's relevant.

The problem is PC specific - not file specifc.
