Unable to publish report that contains Salesforce data

Hello,

I have been trying to publish a Power BI report using Salesforce data. I am able to import the Salesforce data into Power BI desktop but when I go to publish the report, the data source will not accept my credentials.

Error:

We can't authorize you because of an OAuth error. For more information, contact your Salesforce administrator.
OAUTH_APPROVAL_ERROR_GENERIC : An unexpected error has occured during authentication. Please try again.

I reached out to our Salesforce admins and they say since I am able to import the data into Power BI desktop, the error is not on their end. Our Power BI admins state everything is configured for salesforce.

I have a Pro Power BI account and Salesforce admins confirmed API access is enabled on my profile.

I have tried to import and publish the data with both the default production link (salesforce.com) and company custom link (xxx.mysalesforce.com). Both result in the Oauth error.

When I try to log intoSalesforce outside of Power BI the mysalesforce.com redirects to a lightning URL and I am able to login without issue. When I try to log into the salesforce.com URL, I get an Oauth error.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction for what the issue may be?

Sorry for the delay - I was finally able to get connected to Salesforce and it was definitly a miss on the Salesforce admin side. It took getting Salesforce customer support involved.

The Salesforce admins had not installed both the PowerBI Query and PowerBI Query Refresh Apps under the 'approved apps' in Salesforce. Since I was able to import into PowerBI desktop, they assumed everything was set up already. Once they got the PowerBI apps installed I was able to enter my credentials and set up autorefresh.

Hi @pconn,

Thank you for the response and confirming that the issue is resolved now. Thank you for being part of Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thanks and regards,

Hi @pconn,

If you are able to connect with same credentials from Desktop and not from service, then issue is on salesforce Side,

Ask your salesforce admin to lookk for below settings for authentication:-

verify the Power BI connected app has:

  • IP Relaxation = Relax IP restrictions

  • Permitted users = Admin approved users

  • MyDomain OAuth enabled

  • Refresh tokens not restricted

  • MFA/SSO OAuth exemptions (if enforced)

This should be helpful to authenticate your access to Salesforce.
