Unable to create Snowflake Key-Pair connection in Power BI Service (works in Desktop)
You are not doing anything wrong.
Snowflake Key-Pair authentication is currently NOT supported for Cloud connections in Power BI Service, even though it works in Desktop. What you should do now
- Use Username + Password for Service refresh OR
- Use On-Prem Gateway if key-pair is mandatory
Use Snowflake Username + Password in Power BI Service
- Create Service connection with:
- Auth: Username / Password
- Desktop can still use Key-Pair
- Service refresh uses password
Result:
- Stable
- Supported
- No gateway needed

- Source?
- Why is it present on UX?
- When it is going to be removed from UX or fixed?

Hi jikuja ,
This is the main official doc for connecting Power BI Service with Snowflake. It shows only the supported connection setup for now.
Connect to Snowflake with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Since Key -Pair is exposed in the Power BI Service UI but not actually supported for native cloud connections, this would be best raised on the Power BI Issues or Ideas forum so the product team can track it properly.

Hope this helps.
Thank you.
