Unable to connect with ssl to Azure PostgreSQL 15 (flexible server) with Power BI Desktop

Hi to all! We are encountering difficulties connecting to our Azure Database for PostgreSQL using Direct Query within Power BI Desktop. Since the latest update of Power BI Desktop (October 14, 2024), we have been unable to establish a successful connection.

Specific Details:

  • Database Engine: PostgreSQL 15
  • Server Type: Flexible Server

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open the Power BI Desktop report that uses Direct Query to the Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
  2. Upon opening, the report displays a modal prompting for database credentials.
  3. Enter the correct username, password, and select the appropriate server from the dropdown.
  4. Click "Connect."
  5. The connection fails with the error message: "We were unable to connect to the data source using an encrypted connection. To access this data source using an encrypted connection, click OK."
  6. Clicking "OK" results in the same error message: "We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided. Please try again."

Additional Information:

  • We have verified that the database credentials are correct and have access to the required resources.
  • The Azure Database for PostgreSQL server is configured to allow only encrypted connections.
  • For PostgreSQL on Single Server, disabling SSL on the server side allows a successful connection. However, this is not a viable solution for our Flexible Server environment.

Thanks to anyone for the answer!

Hi @dmicelicelli ,

Have a good day. The issue has been solved. Could you check it?

Best Regards,

Wearsky

Thanks @v-xiaocliu-msft but the issue was not fixed, I checked it.

Have @hti_jsharpe checked too?

I have not installed the latest update, I reverted back to the September version and it is working in that version.  I am hesitant to update and have to revert back again.

Hi @dmicelicelli  ,

This issue has been confirmed as a known issue internally. Please be patient to wait for fixing. If there is any news, I will update it here.

As a workaround, please consider using the September version of Power BI Desktop.

Best Regards,

Wearsky

It would be helpful if this was in the Known Issues link.  Seeing as you call it a known issue.

I have been having this same issue, have put in a support ticket but has not been resolved.  They had a new update yesterday that appears it did not fix the issue.
