Unable to connect to Databricks from Power BI Desktop

Hi All,

Again we can't connect to our Azure Databricks instances through PBI Desktop. It seems like there is an issue with the ODBC driver.

Error message: "ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ThriftExtension] (14) Unexpected response from server during a HTTP connection: SSL_connect: certificate verify failed."

Is this a Power BI issue? PBI Desktop Version: 2.136.1202.0 64-bit (September, 2024)

  • Hi NAVEEN_0506 -ODBC driver is outdated or incompatible with your current version of Power BI Desktop.

    Databricks Driver Documentation (cdata.com)

The error message specifically points to an SSL certificate verification issue. This could be caused by a missing or improperly configured root certificate on your machine. If your organization uses a self-signed SSL certificate, you may need to add the certificate to the trusted certificates on your system. If you're certain the connection is secure but SSL verification is causing issues, one temporary workaround is to disable SSL validation. You can achieve this by modifying the ODBC connection string to include SSL=0, but use this approach with caution, as it bypasses SSL checks and can expose the connection to risks.your firewall or network configuration isn’t blocking the SSL certificate validation process. Your IT team might need to whitelist certain URLs or IPs to allow for proper verification.
