Unable to connect PowerBI to an external tenants SharePoint List

Our user would like to replicate a dashboard in PowerBI, the existing dashboard is owned by a third party and is derived from the data collected in a List held in their Microsoft environment. Our user holds credentials to access their environment and the existing dataset, but when these are used to connect PowerBI they are are unsuccessful.

When attempting to connect the error message points to being unable to authenticate, while the user can manually connect and access. I have taken the user through the various options to connect and all return the same response.

Copilot has suggested some possible reasons, but can anyone be more specific or highlight anything obvious which would resolve this for us?

Hi @chatag05

You need to add the ecternal user to azure AD and then makes some modifications.
Please relate to the linked step by step guide:

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.

@Ritaf1983 Thank you so much for your inputs.

The information provided by super user was helpful. Yes, connecting to the semantic model may work and is definitely the easier option to get going quickly. please try those and If you still have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the community.

Thanks for this suggestion. So based on this, your recommendation is to link to the semantic model instead of the dataset source, a Microsoft List?

I am asking as I would prefer to connect to the source instead of potentially a modified model.
