Unable to change data type

There are ocassions when changing the data type in the designer doesn't work. Have you tried changing the data type in Power Query instead?

Thank you so much for your responses DAN and FBergamaschi . I've attached screenshots of where I have been met with my challenges. Red circle is the data field I'm trying to change from text to a number. In excel, I have saved this field as both a number or general (same as other fields that have numbers in Power BI). I am receiving the error message that I cannot do this.

I have tried from table view - not sure that i the same as Power Query ?) and receive a similar error message. I'm fairly new to Power BI and trying to teach myself to finish a project for work. Thank you for any advice you may be able to give!
