Unable to change data type
I have a data field that is a saved as general or number in excel but is only test in power BI.
I've tried to change it in power BI but receive an error message every time that it is infant to automatically change it from text to number.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
That is the table view. Go to Home tab then Transform Data. Look for the query, try changing the data type from there and then apply the changes.

Hi eliseglines,
I am not sure I got your question, can you share pictures so we understand better your problem and/or send me the model via mail for the fix (once we have a clear idea of the issue)?
If this helped, please consider giving kudos and mark as a solution

Hi eliseglines
There are ocassions when changing the data type in the designer doesn't work. Have you tried changing the data type in Power Query instead?

Thank you so much for your responses DAN and FBergamaschi . I've attached screenshots of where I have been met with my challenges. Red circle is the data field I'm trying to change from text to a number. In excel, I have saved this field as both a number or general (same as other fields that have numbers in Power BI). I am receiving the error message that I cannot do this.
I have tried from table view - not sure that i the same as Power Query ?) and receive a similar error message. I'm fairly new to Power BI and trying to teach myself to finish a project for work. Thank you for any advice you may be able to give!- danextianSuper User
