Trouble with measures and tooltips

Hi all!

 

I have a powerbi dashboard where some graphics show trends of certain events from 2020-2025 by quarter and multiple insurance payers are shown via different lines (private, medicare ffs, medicaid, etc.). I also have a total line that is the sum of all payers' events. These graphics are filterable by event (multiple procedures we are interested in), year/quarter, payer. When i hover over a specific spot on the chart, a box appears displaying the exact counts for each payer, which i want! However, i want to add in the % of each payer's event counts so that viewers can understand how much of an event volume is coming from each insurance payer. I've been trying to solve this via new measures calculated with the equations below, but my denominator is not populating for everyone and the % only shows up as 100% for the total line. Please help if you have any suggestions!

    As per your understanding, the goal is to show each payer’s percentage of the total event volume when hovering over the chart, while keeping filters such as event, year/quarter, and other slicers.

    The issue occurs because your denominator is filtering to Payer = "Projected Total", which only returns values for that line. As a result, the percentage for other payers becomes blank and the total shows 100%.

    Recommended Approach

    Instead of filtering to "Projected Total", calculate the total across all payers by removing only the payer filter.

    Example:

    Volume =
    SUM(Pain_event_counts[Count])

     

    Total Volume (All Payers) =
    CALCULATE(
    [Volume],
    REMOVEFILTERS(Pain_event_counts[Payer])
    )

    % of Total Volume =
    DIVIDE(
    [Volume],
    [Total Volume (All Payers)]
    )

    This Works

    • REMOVEFILTERS(Payer) removes only the payer filter.
      • All other filters (event, year, quarter, etc.) remain applied.
      • Each payer is divided by the same total volume for that point in time.

    When hovering a point on the chart you will see something like:

    Private → Count + % of total
    Medicare FFS → Count + % of total
    Medicaid → Count + % of total
    Total → 100%

     

    Add the % of Total Volume measure to the Tooltip field well of the visual so viewers can see both counts and percentages.

    This approach keeps the calculation dynamic across all slicers and time periods.

  • If you have a payer dimension (recommended), remove filters from that table/column, not the fact table.

  • Hi,

    Without the file, cannot help much but try this.  In the second measure, replace removefilters with all.  Also, remove everything after the second comma.  If this does not help, then share the download link of the PBI file clearly showing the problem there.
