Tree visualisation showing info about sub-categories

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a visualisation on Power BI that allows me to build something similar to this (see screenshot). It is basically visualisating item category and info about their sub categories. Thanks!

Hi @leekarensl

Based on your screenshot, it looks like you want to create a matrix visualization in Power BI that displays item category and subcategory information.

You can try the following:

Add the Decomposition Tree Visual to Your Report:

In your Power BI report, select the Decomposition Tree icon from the Visualizations pane to add it to your report canvas.

Configure the Visual:

Drag the field representing your main category to the Analyze bucket.

Then, drag the fields representing sub-categories or other related information into the Explain by bucket. This setup allows you to drill down into your categories and explore sub-categories in detail.

Once your visual is set up, you can start exploring your data by clicking on a category and then drilling down into its sub-categories.

The Decomposition Tree also supports AI-powered suggestions for the next dimension to drill into, which can be particularly useful for ad hoc data exploration.

You can view the link below for more details:

Thanks for the prompt response. I did check the decomposition tree prior to posting here but it wasn't the visualisation that the stakeholders are after although I agree it can represent the data as needed. It's more on the aesthetics that I am after. If anyone knows of any other way around this, that would be great. Thanks everyone 🙂
