Translations Builder Error on Open

Has anyone been able to resolve this error when opening the Translations Builder tool for Power BI Desktop? I'm running all of the latest versions of PBI (October 2024 - v2.137.1102.0), Translations Builder (v 2.2), and Microsoft .NET (v6.1.3524.46703). To my knowledge, those are the three programs the Translations tool relies on to run.

It happens every time I open Translations Builder, and I can't use the tool at all. I've tried uninstalling the three programs above and reinstalling various combinations of their previous versions. Nothing seems to work. I always get the same error.

I noticed it happening a few days ago but when I'd come back to my work later, the message didn't pop up. Only as of yesterday did it start to happen every time. Has any one been able to resolve this? Is it happening this consistently for any one else?

Hi @bethanywilliams

On my side Translations Builder opens and works in Power BI Desktop.

My versions of Power BI Desktop and Translations Builder are the same as yours, but I am using .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime (v6.0.14). Please refer to the following link for instructions to download the .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime (v6.0.14) and install it, then retry to see if that solves the problem.

Also note that it is recommended that you use the default Folder path value of C:\Program Files\Translations Builder\ when installing Translations Builder.

Hi Jarvis. Thanks for your response!

My default file path is the same as yours:

And I did install the .NET 6.0.14 version you mentioned via the link, and am still getting the same error message.

This screenshot shows you which versions of PBI desktop, Translations Builder, and .NET I'm using.

Hi @bethanywilliams

According to the error "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application", this usually means that an unhandled exception occurred during application initialization. You can try running the .NET Framework Repair Tool to repair possible damage. Here is download link: Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool is available - Microsoft Support

Additionally, please refer to other possible solutions shared in the following link:

@v-xianjtan-msftUnfortunately the .NET repair tool didn't find anything wrong. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled several .NET versions and I'm still getting the same Translations Builder error.

Using the Unhandled Exception link you provided, I also ran a system file check using SFC /scannow via command prompt, made sure my .NET framework is enabled, and scanned for malware.

Hi @bethanywilliams

Since I can't reproduce your problem and can't collect your Power BI logs in this public forum, it is recommended that you open a ticket and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will resolve the issue for you, if you are a Pro account it will be free.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you, Jarvis. I have a ticket open already, actually. I just wanted to cover all my bases and post here as well. Thanks for all your help!
