Transition from Bus Obj to PBI

In transition from Bus Obj to PBI, we got to choose the path with paginated reports as the former doesnt have the user defined parameter inputs. With Paginated reports how can I create multiple tabs if it includes multiple datasets ?

  • Hi rnola16,

In Power BI Paginated Reports, you cannot have tabs like Excel or traditional multi-tab Business Objects reports directly but you can still achieve a multi-page report by designing multiple report sections based on different datasets within a single Paginated Report file.

Here's how you can approach it:

In your Paginated Report (.rdl file), you can connect to multiple datasets, even if they come from different sources.
To organize the report, create different sections by adding Tables, Matrices, or Charts, each linked to a specific dataset, and arrange them vertically.
To simulate tabs, you can insert page breaks after each section by right-clicking on the table or matrix, selecting Properties, and setting a Page Break after.  If the datasets or layouts differ significantly, you can create separate sub-reports and embed them into a main report.
This will make each sub-report behave like an independent "tab" or "section" when the report is exported or viewed.
User-defined parameters can still be utilized at the top report level and passed individually to the different datasets as needed.

Happy to help! If this addressed your concern, marking it as "Accepted Solution" and giving us "kudos" would be valuable for others in the community.

    Thank you.

Tried doing with 'Embedded paginated' reports in PBI but the issue remains that each tab in the PBI will need to be run individually. Multiple tabs dont talk to each other unless you map the parameters from the paginated report to the Datasets in PBI. The other issue also is on the scheduling the reports.
