Tooltips still working despite being turned off for Table Visuals containing SVG in Power BI
- 1 year ago
Hi osaidhashmi,
Thank you for raising this issue and providing the detailed screenshot. I’ve reviewed your query regarding tooltips appearing for SVGs in Table Visuals despite being turned off, and it seems to be related to how Power BI renders SVG content.
The tooltip you’re seeing is likely triggered by elements within the SVG code itself, such as <title> or <desc> tags, which Power BI may not fully suppress even when the Tooltips setting is turned off. This can cause the intermittent behavior you’ve described, especially when SVGs are sourced from tools like ChatGPT or Figma, which may include such tags by default. The act of removing and re-adding the column likely forces a re-render, temporarily resolving the issue.
Here are a few steps you can try:
- Check for <title> or <desc> tags in your SVG (e.g., in your screenshot, the <title> tag says "Total Amount in bold"). Removing these tags should prevent the tooltip from appearing.
- Try using a minimal SVG without metadata tags to confirm if the issue persists.
- In Power BI Desktop, clear the cache (File > Options and Settings > Options > Data Load > Clear Cache) and refresh your report.
- Alternative consider using conditional formatting with Power BI’s built-in icons or externally hosted images to avoid SVG rendering issues.

Thank you.
Workaround for the Problem:
Create an Empty Dummy Measure:
Example:
Dummy Empty = "⠀"
(Note: This is a non-breaking space.)Overlay a Transparent Card Visual:
Place a Card visual, using the Dummy measure, at the same size and position as your SVG visual.
Disable the background, title, and other style options to make the Card completely transparent.Turn Off Tooltips on the Card Visual:
Make sure Tooltips are disabled for the Card.
Now you should have an invisible layer over the SVGs, preventing users from interacting with the SVG Tooltips.
I hope this helps temporarily. 😁
