Tooltips (decide which ones and in which order I want - tooltip pages are not a solution)

Hello kind people!

I want something extremely simple; to manually decide which fields in which order are displayed as my tooltips.

This is apparently impossible, but frankly, I have trouble believing how a product like PowerBI can lack something so basic?

I currently have a few problems:

- My fields in X Axis, Y Axis, Legend, and Size, are automatically shown as tooltips - I cannot disable these 'default' tooltips

- I cannot order/sort these 'default' tooltips

- I cannot avoid this by adding (some of these 'default') tooltips manually to the Tooltips field (as well as any other fields I might want to have as tooltips); this merely duplicates the tooltip so that I see the same field twice - what is that for stupid idea?

- I can barely order/sort my other tooltips; dragging and dropping the fields to the correct positions in the Tooltips field does nothing, I need to add them in the correct order - this is highly annoying, and again, how can this be the case for years now? Surely someone should have fixed this?

And that's basically my conclusion to all four of these points; why has nobody taken a single moment to think about this and make this behave intuitively and logically, in the past years?

I know, the very first comment on this post will tell me to use a tooltip page. That doesn't work for multiple reasons:

- I cannot get the exact same layout as the default tooltip (no, a table or a matrix looks very different)

- Tooltip pages are annoying w.r.t. scaling

- But most importantly; the values are different, because I use measures, not simple columns - I would end up with my Y Axis and my tooltip saying different values (the Y Axis being correct) while using the same field

Is there a solution to this? I assume no, but I want to be sure.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Anonymous

You can create your own tooltips in the exact way you want: https://www.myonlinetraininghub.com/custom-tooltips-in-power-bi

Hope this helps 🙂
