Hello Community!
I am updating a HR Report that reviews the Time off scheduling hours from the employees, and we have a simpe page were we have a matrix with field parameter in rows, Date hierarchy in columns and the measure of schedule hours in values.
This visual has a custom tooltip that displays as a title the date (DD/MM/YYYY) and a table with schedule hours and the WBSs where is assigned and if was approved or just submitted.
The problem is that we have the date hirarchy in the column and we drilldown until day (Year, month, day) and in each cell you can see the corresponging hours of the employee.
The thing is, the tooltip is not working when the date hirarchy is there! but when I change de date as full date (without hierarchy and possibility to drilldown) it does work! What I see is that when the hierarchy is on, it shows me only the first date of the date range I have for the matrix, it looks like the context of the column is being ignored and does not take into account for filtering the context.
I tried to bring the current date for each cell with DAX but I did not succeed.
Do you know what I can do to use the tooltip with the hierarchy date? Using the full date is not an acceptance criteria for this task 😞 and if is not possible, is a limitation of power bi? or should I bring a ticket for support?
Thank you for your help!!
Hi @marii39hn ,
Based on the description, please try the following methods:
1.Create the sample table.
2.Create the page as tooltip. Drag the date and measure to the page.
3.Set the Tooltips to use Page2.
4.The matrix tooltip result is shown below.

@marii39hn You should try to create a measure and use this in tooltip. Refer this blog to get some idea:
Hi! Thank you for your reply, the problem here is not the name.
The thing here is that the tooltip is not correctly showing the data of scheduled hours when I hover the mouse in a specific cell, in this case if you see in the screenshot, I hover in a empty cell in both situations, the difference is when we have the full date in the column axis, the tooltip is correctly no showing anything (because there is nothing there), but when the hierarchy is on the matrix in the column axis with the full drilldown, the tooltip is showing me incorrect date and scheduled hours that do not correspond to the cell I am hovering.
I hope this helps to give more context of my problem.
Wow! What a coincidence you're dealing with hierarchy issues as I just posted a similar problem.
My testing of hierachies indicates that they are not truly ready for prime time. You can't customize the name displayed, and like you said, it ignores the context level. Now, tooltips don't work properly? Is there any end to the bugginess? As developers, we need features that allow us to build powerful visuals, not half-baked solutions that sort of work.
Unless an expert or Microsoft employee comes in here with a different answer, I am ditching hierarchies and will just manually load the levels myself into visuals and chalk up the half day I spent trying to learn hierachies as a waste of time.
