Time Diff calculation not updating in Power BI Server.

Hi Experts,

I have an issue. I am calculating age in minutes from the date/time (when we logged a ticket). It works in Desktop refresh.

Issue: when the dataset is refreshed in the PowerBI server it is not calculating the age. I am using now() - date/time created as Age.

Below 2 images from PBI server.

Refreshed in Power BI at 11.40 pmRefreshed in Power BI at 11.40 pm

Refreshed in Power BI at 11.00 pmRefreshed in Power BI at 11.00 pm

Refreshed data from PBI Desktop. All minutes/ hour data all moved to 1 day as they calculate from created date to my local time. My local time is +11 from UTC.

Hi @Anonymous ,

That has to do with the fact that the PBI service uses the UTC time zone, so when you use now that is the hour you will get.

Check the links below with several ways to solved it.

@MFelix

Hi Miguel, I have found a solution. Though I have gone through Radacad and Excel guru. i have achieved outcome differently. Please wait for a day or two, as i am waiting for the new ticket database update as others send me the data.

I'll update the solution, within  2days.

I found the solution.

  1. As the ticket was raised in local time (which is +10 to UTC). calculation of age was resulting in a negative value (my time was ahead of UTC). Resulting in negative values rolling into time bucket as the time lapsed. Solved with converting local time to UTC and then calculating the age. The values will look different in PBI Desktop, this should be expected.
  2. Dataset was refreshing, the refreshed report was showing the old values. Solved with refreshing the browser once the dataset/report is refreshed.

Thanks @MFelix for the reference material.
