Three inputs: 1 - last selected month, 2 - period length, 3 - number of periods

Hello All,

I got an interesting problem to solve with Power BI and since I am fairly a beginner (couple of months of experience with Power BI), I would like to ask for suggestions. I have a master sales and master date table configured.

The customer requirements are the following:

  1. They would like to be able to select the last month (for example 2024-06)

  2. They would like to be able to select the period length (for example 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, etc.)

  3. They would like to be able to select the number of periods (for example 1, 2, 3, etc.)

Using these three inputs I need to create a report that returns the aggregated values ending with the selected month for each period for the number of periods selected.

For example: selected end month = 2024-06, selected period length = 3, selected number of periods = 4 means that I have to aggregate the sales data every 3 months starting from 2023-07 to 2024-06 and return 4 datapoints.

1st period = 2023-07 to 2023-09

2nd period = 2023-10 to 2023-12

3rd period = 2024-01 to 2024-03

4th period = 2024-04 to 2024-06

Each period should be aggregated on their respective 3-month period and displayed on a visual with play time functionality. Any suggestions/advice/pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you!
