The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I want to connect to an Intune data source. Intune provides an Odata feed for Power BI to create reports.
After creating the connection in Power BI, the tables are visible, so the credentials seem correct.

By selecting a table, I get an Error 500 Internal Server Error.

I have done the following actions from other threads:

- Increased the time out

- Cleared the permissions for this connection and provided the credentials again.

- Checked the permissions in Intune.

Connecting to other Odata sources works fine, only this one gives me trouble.

Does anyone have an idea?

Kind regards,

Bart

Hi  @v-yajiewan-msft ,

We found the solution to our issue, all permissions appeared to be ok but it only works with intune admins. This was because "All unlicensed admins have access to Intune" which you can verify in Intune under "Tenant administration / Roles / Administrator licensing".

Assigning an "Enterprise Mobility + Security E3" license to the user account solved the issue. Which has the Microsoft Intune Plan 1

Hi Joyce @v-yajiewan-msft ,

Thank you for your reply.

Does selecting any table in the navigator give the same error?
- Yes, I can see the list of tables but selecting any table will result in the error message.

Could other administrators connect successfully?

- I have an administrator who can see the data, but we can't determine the differences. We also tried different permissions in Intune.

Also, please connect intune data at a different timeline to check if this is a temporary issue.

- I'm not sure what you mean by a different timeline

Lastly, make sure you are using the latest power bi desktop.

- I'm using version: 2.131.1203.0 64-bit (July 2024)

The same error occurs when creating the connection in Excel.

Hi @Bswuste ,

Thank you for your feedback.

As you said, another admin could access the data right?

Make sure the user must be one of:

  • Microsoft Entra Global Administrator
  • An Intune service administrator
  • User with role-based access to Intune data warehouse resource

Best regards,

Joyce

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for your reaction.
It seems this is a permission issue in our Itune, so our guys are looking into it.

When they gave me temporary administrator rights (just to see what happens), I could see the data.
