'The distribution cannot be computed for the currently selected column' error (2)

Go again with this question [hence the (2) suffix to the title]

Trying to do data profiling using the  Power Query editor > View > Column Profile  and getting the 'The distribution cannot be computed for the currently selected column' error.

All the column data is like this for this particular table.  The dataset is sourced from Sharepoint Lists.

Note also that the  Column Distribution  setting when checked produces the same blank result.  ie a blank with no sprite graphs etc

What could be the issue?  Simple columns show [Valid 100%, Error 0%, Empty 0%] results in Column Quality.  But Column Quality is the only setting giving results.

Why do all other columns do the same and not show the full profiling?  For example a simple Yes / No column.  Defined as Text with no errors and no empty values should still 'profile'.  Right?

I suppose the real question for me, is why does the data profiling not work for all columns in this particular table?

There are values there in all the columns.  There are no reported errors in each of the columns  (Error 0%) .

What could be the issue that stops power bi producing the Column Distribution and Column Profile results and giving the 'The distribution cannot be computed for the currently selected column' error?

  • Your data source is not suitable for this.  Try using Table.Buffer before attempting the profiling.

I got this problem with 'finantials' internal example sheet. Its a simple sheet. How to use Table.Buffer?

No need for Table.Buffer in that case.  Make sure your column type is not "variant"
