The Test as role feature doesn't work for DirectQuery models with Single Sign-On (SSO) enabled.
The impact still exists and does a massive impact to those dashboards just launched in Nov'25. It runs perfectly in the past 6 months. Please escalate this issue and update the progress or any troubleshooting.
I see that this topic has been raised since 14th Oct 2025, with no progress for this. Please help vote to escalate this one or kindly troubleshooting this issue.

Hi Chipsnump ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
At this point, since this behaviour is impacting production dashboards in your tenant and you are expecting escalation and progress tracking, the next step would be to open a Microsoft Support ticket directly from your Power BI Admin Portal. Community members do not have access to tenant-side diagnostics, and escalation can only be managed through a formal support case.
Please include the following when raising the ticket:
• Activity ID and Timestamp from the error dialog
• Workspace name + Dataset name (non-confidential)
• Whether DirectQuery + SSO is enabled and for which source
• When this was last working successfully in your environmentThis will allow the engineering team to validate whether this is a regression associated with a recent service update and provide you with tracking.
Please use thebelow link for rasing the support ticket:Create a Fabric and Power BI Support Ticket - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.
Thank you.

Hi Anonymous
Thank you for your message. I followed your instructions and completed the troubleshooting with Microroft team. However, I still believe there may be some instability coming up soon, as some dashboards that were previously affected by this issue started working normally again today without any adjustment or fix from my side. Therefore, some of their recommendations still seem conflicting to me in certain cases.Info. Sharing:
Analysis &Resolution:
We had a meeting to troubleshoot the issue.
We found that after enabling SSO and enter credentials the issue is resolved.
You would like to know what caused the issue and we collected the logs collected when the issue is reproduced.
We have gone through the logs you have shared with us and found the error below:
powerBiErrorDetails={"error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","pbi.error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error_Details_Label","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Single sign-on (SSO) is disabled which is required for directly querying a cloud Analysis Services data source."}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}}
We checked internally on this error and found the issue does seems to be due to SSO not being enabled and trying the Test as role.
As can be seen in the document below, Test as role feature doesn’t work for Direct Query models with Single Sign-On enabled.
