The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine.

Hello,

When I refresh the dataset on Power BI Desktop, I receive the following error;

An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine.'

Since I am fairly new to Power BI, I don't know how to solve it. Would be grateful if you could advise me.

@Anonymous , Please install the driver given in page - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-connect-oracle-database

https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/odac-downloads.html

This is a zip and you need unzip and install, Instruction is part readme.

After that make sure you need to enter install folder path in windows envvironment variable PATH. If you miss this it will still not work.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Here are some notes:

  • Choose a version of Oracle Data Access Client (ODAC) which is compatible with your Oracle Server. For instance, ODAC 12.x does not always support Oracle Server version 9. Choose the Windows installer of the Oracle Client. During the setup of the Oracle client, make sure you enable Configure ODP.NET and/or Oracle Providers for ASP.NET at machine-wide level by selecting the corresponding checkbox during the setup wizard. Some versions of the Oracle client wizard selects the checkbox by default, others do not. Make sure that checkbox is selected so that Power BI can connect to your Oracle database.

          Reference: Install the Oracle client

  • Use Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to deploy via a graphical universal interface. OUI is easy to use and can be configured to install ODAC software silently.
  • Use XCopy to deploy ODAC to large numbers of machines. XCopy has the smallest size and allows complete installation and configuration customization.

          Reference: ODAC Runtime Downloads

In addition, this post describes "ODAC 12.2c Release 1 Installation Instructions".

Best regards

Thank you for the quick reply! Just a quick question, when I open the 64-bit Oracle Data Access Components Downloads page, I see a lot of files. Which one do I need to download?
