The 'Driver' property with value '{Simba Snowflake ODBC Driver}' doesn't correspond to an installed

Hi all.

2 of my collegues in our company contacted to me an said they can't load anymore data from Snowflake. They try to load data from our DWH: xxxxxxx.west-europe.azure.snowflakecomputing.com and they get the following error:

Driver Error.png

This means, that at the moment they can't load anymore data from Snowflake into Power BI Desktop, which is a huge showstopper for us.

For me, everything worked fine (so I was able to load data from Snwoflake) and we were both on the same version. The version is:

Version.png

So my next step was, to check in the Microsoft Store, if there is any update missing from Power BI Desktop on my side. There was indeed an update missing, and I updated Power BI Desktop. After this update I am experiencing this issue too.

I have, and I had never the need to install a Snowflake localy on my machine together with Power BI Desktop, so my guess is, that the Power BI version available in the Microsoft Store has a problem. Also multiple deinstallation and installation of Power BI Desktop over the Microsoft Store didn't solve the issue.

Does somebody of you have the same problem?

For Microsoft Community Support

I am reinstalling from the download centre daily.   I have to uninstall and reinstall to get Power BI Desktop to work.

This is unworkable and we have raised an incident through our Microsoft Account manager.

However, this has come at a time where we are trying to raise adoption throughout the business and this is causing massive disruption and animosity against the new visualization tool.

Please can someone give me an update on when this will be fixed so that I can inform our stakeholders.

This is not making Microsoft / Fabric look good.

Our updates come via company portal and a sync with this hasn't fixed the problem. Our org is blocked from Windows store so cannot download from there.

The version in the store does NOT fix the problem.

A reinstall fixed it for a day and then you need to reinstall again the next day

This isnt the case for everyone but it is for me and several of my developers.

Microsfoft need to fix the issue which was reported in March 24.

The Aug install still contains this issue

Issue resolved after updating to this version from store

yes, uninstall and the reinstall through the store. It works. All of that without any admin rights.

Thanks for the quick resolution

I had this same problem this morning; after receiving an automatically applied update in the last day or two.  I saw this morning there was an update in the Microsoft Store (with no release notes).  I installed this update (less than <50mb download).

Power BI desktop version number has incremented to Version: 2.135.7627.0 64-bit (August 2024); previosuly non-working version was 2.132.1053.0.

I am now able to successfully connect to Snowflake using recently used connections.

Confirm.

I've also tried to update the app via Ms Store. It works fine now and the version has moved to 2.135.7627.0

I can confirm that the issue is sorted now after a re-install of the same from MS store.

Installing again fixes it... temporarily.  That doesnt mean that Microsoft have fixed the issue.

@DuncanMummery Microsoft infact fixed the bug in the version "2.135.7627.0". You can get it now.

This really needs an urgent fix from Microsoft.

I reinstalled yesterday and the problem was fixed.  Now its back this morning.

This is preventing us developing and working towards deadlines.  This needs a fix not a reinstall.

We have developers and superusers who cannot use the desktop application at all.

Also here the same issue since yesterday. Reinstall using the PBI download worked for me as well.

Thanks for the reply from EvelynV,  GMS1,  sanjyot_firke  and calmalone , please allow me to provide another insight:

Hi, @Starriver

We have seen on the internal platform that other engineers have reported this issue and submitted it.
The engineers on the product team are now aware and will do their best to resolve the issue. I will update here if there is any progress, so please be patient.

As mentioned, customers using the Windows Store version (2.132.1053.0) may encounter issues when connecting to data sources with an ODBC driver.

The current alternatives are as follows, and you can operate according to your needs:
If your desktop version has been updated to this version, please uninstall the Microsoft Store version (2.132.1053.0) and then download and install the correct version of Power BI Desktop (2.132.1053.0) from the official Microsoft Download Center.
Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Thanks for your understanding.

Best Regards,

Leroy Lu

Hi Leroy!
Are there any updates on this roll back?
I am not an admin of my laptop and cannot download and install anything, so I need to be fixed in the Microsoft Store version (2.132.1053.0).

Thanks for any update!

Best,

Álvaro

Hi Leroy ,

Can the issue be sorted wih high priority by internal Engineers please. This is impacting all our stakeholders across the org and developments are at a halt.
Do we have to wait for the next update to the app for this bug fix???
Our end users does'nt have Admin access on their machines for obvious reasons and rthey simply cannot unistall and install the suggested version.

The resolution provided was not in sync with the governance policies.

Thanks,

Karuna

Hi v-linyulu-msft
Thank you for your prompt response and for addressing the current issue. I hope it will be resolved successfully and we can return to normal operations 🙏

I have a concern regarding your suggestion to download Power BI Desktop from the Download Center instead of using the version from the Windows Store. Currently at the moment all 20 of my dashboards depend on this Windows Store application, and I’m worried about the potential impacts on my reports, semantic models, RLS, subscriptions, and app functionality if I switch to the downloaded version 😐

Additionally, if I make this change and the issue with the Windows App is resolved shortly afterward, I would face the challenge of reverting back to the Windows Store version 👉👈

I would greatly appreciate your assistance / or anyone reading this and your insights on this matter.

Thanks!

It's the same for other sources too, in our case it is PostgreSQL

Hi, Is there any estimate on resolution. Can we roll back to the earliest version and push it across.
