The 'Driver' property with value '{Simba Snowflake ODBC Driver}' doesn't correspond to an installed

Hi all.

2 of my collegues in our company contacted to me an said they can't load anymore data from Snowflake. They try to load data from our DWH: xxxxxxx.west-europe.azure.snowflakecomputing.com and they get the following error:

Driver Error.png

This means, that at the moment they can't load anymore data from Snowflake into Power BI Desktop, which is a huge showstopper for us.

For me, everything worked fine (so I was able to load data from Snwoflake) and we were both on the same version. The version is:

So my next step was, to check in the Microsoft Store, if there is any update missing from Power BI Desktop on my side. There was indeed an update missing, and I updated Power BI Desktop. After this update I am experiencing this issue too.

I have, and I had never the need to install a Snowflake localy on my machine together with Power BI Desktop, so my guess is, that the Power BI version available in the Microsoft Store has a problem. Also multiple deinstallation and installation of Power BI Desktop over the Microsoft Store didn't solve the issue.

Does somebody of you have the same problem?

Issue has been solved. I installed now the version again from the Microsoft Store and everything works again. See also communication on the Power BI Status page:

Uninstall and reinstalling manually through the website worked for us as well, but this will have to be done by device admins. The users get automatic updates from the store, so a fix there would be better.

Uninstall and reinstall using this link worked. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494

Also seeing the same thing. It seems to not be working for connecting to actual tables/views as well as custom queries in PBI Desktop via Snowflake. However, reports already in the Service connected to Snowflake on a scheduled refresh are working properly for me still. Seems update related... hopefully the right people over there get alerted soon.

Hi Everyone,

I had a similar issue. It started after I selected the dark mode feature, which will be available in the next release. It somehow corrupted the August version of the app. I uninstalled and manually installed August release version of the app from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494 as per suggestions above and that fixed the issue for me.

Hope this helps!

Is there any solution for this? Is the app getting updated with a fix?

Same show stopper problem at the absolute worst time.  Getting no where.  Rolled back to the July 2024 release and now I'm back in business.  Does Microsoft have a take on this?  Try again later?

Can we expect an update on the store to correct that ?

How did you role back to July 2024 release?

Re-installing application using setup file could take significant time in my case due to not having admin rights.

As an alternative, I'm using ODBC to connect to snowflake and it still works.

I also uninstalled everything and did a manual install using the setup.exe and it worked

After installing Power BI Desktop manually everything works fine again. So this issue exists only in the Micrsoft Store Version.

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

but need to get admin rights to do so no ?

You can download it without admin rights. But somebody with admin rights has to install you the software.

You don't need admin rights to download Power BI Desktop. We also don't have adminr ights on the laptops.
