Tabular Editor bug since Power BI September 2025?
Since this week (and therefore the last Power BI update), many functions in Tabular Editor don't work anymore when opening a PB model from PB Desktop.
(1) Previously, (almost?) all options under "Model" were available. Now, none of them are (they are greyed out).
(2) Moreover, when I right click on a measure, a lot of options are not visible (so not greyed out, but fully invisible). The 'invisible' options are: Create New Measure/Calculatied Column/Hierarchy/KPI, Show in Perspective, Hide in Perspective, Duplicate, Delete. So the only visible options are: Create New Display Folder, Make invisible, Show dependencies.
When I open a Model.bim tabular model file in Tabular Editor from a local folder on my pc, all of the functionalities are back. So it seems to be a bug with Power BI models. Has anyone experienced this as well or found any solution?
I'm working with version 2.25.8952.22276 and Power BI most recent version, aka September 2025 / 2.147.931.0

That contact form is here:Enabling File → Preferences → Features → “Allow unsupported Power BI features” fixed it for me on Desktop 2.147.931.0 + TE2 2.26.0. Before this update I didn’t need that toggle, but after the Sept build TE2 treated PBIX as read-only until I turned it on.

The behavior that you've described is currently a known issue as a result of changes that Microsoft made in the September 2025 update of Power BI Desktop, and our team is actively working on a patch to update our tool accordingly.
In the meantime, you can work around this issue by navigating to your TE2 preferences and turning on the setting listed below
File > Preferences > Allow unsupported Power BI features (experimental)Once you have activated this setting, you should see the full experience that you had previously.
Thank you for providing this solution! I applied "File → Preferences → Features → “Allow unsupported Power BI features” in Tabular editor and I could finally edit my Perspectives again. For me this issue only started as of the January 2026 release.
