Tabular Editor / Calculation Group disables UNICHAR for Smart Narrative visual

In an existing PBI desktop file, I had a Smart Narrative text box that showed up/down arrows. After launching Tabular Editor (2.16.4 Free Version) and creating a Calculation Group, the UNICHAR arrows disappeared from the Smart Narrative. They still exist in a matrix or other visual, but not where I was using them. I am able to successfully create the arrows in the Calculation Group and also as independent measures - but no UNICHAR or "Text as Result" characters seem to work in the Smart Narrative.
