Tableau vs PowerBI: Need guidance to promote PowerBI in my organization.

Hello,

I searched this forum and found an article from 2017 but there were questions about it's accuracy.

Can anyone share with me any articles, writings that provides the benefits of PowerBI over Tableau? Additionally any remarks about how PowerBI is positioning itself in the future?

I will be meeting with my leadership in a couple of weeks and will receive very uncomfortable questing from our IT leader (who is a Tableau person) so I need all the help I can get in order to drive acceptance and adoption of PowerBI in my organizatoin.

Thx

DAXRichard

Wow, this hasn't come up in a while. One of the typical responses to this is that Power BI includes Power Query and now Dataflows for advanced data import, cleanup and mashup whereas Tableau does not and you need a third-party product like Alteryx. In fact, every Tableau shop I have seen has Alteryx. Supposedly Tableau is coming out with something at some point.

Another one is the pace of product development, monthly cycle for Power BI vs. old once a year model.

Cloud and mobile first versus (Power BI) versus old on-premises model.

Costs, I have several articles around that on LinkedIn.

The other one that I would call out would be tight integration with Office 365, I think that is a very overlooked aspect.

There are others but those would be the usual suspects.

Thx Gregg!

Hi Greg,

I work for a large municipality. So I have a mixed audience. My larger audience are not technical people. So I will need to mostly speak to them.

Since we've made an investment in Tableau, part of my strategy is "co-existance." A second point I will us is that I'm the power user, and PowerBI is best suited for someone like me (DAX functional language can be used across several platforms including Excel (i.e. Power Pivot).

Fundmentally I need reading material to help form my words as right now I don't have many to use.  : )

If you have a links you can share, that would be great. I'll also go to Linkedin and search for your post.

Thx

DAXRichard
