Tableau to Power BI migration

Scenario 1: Zone Name Filtering

  1. Visual Requirements:

    • Filter by Zone Name (e.g., Is West, Is East, Is South, etc.).
    • Each zone name should display on the map filled with unique colors.

Scenario 2: Region-Level Filtering

  1. Visual Requirements:

    • Add filters for:
      • Zone Name: Dropdown (e.g., Is East).
      • Region: Dropdown (e.g., D1-01, D1-03).
      • Region Name: Dropdown (e.g., Boston, Connecticut).
    • Highlight selected regions within the zone with unique colors.
    • Show all regions in the zone with different shades for selected vs. unselected regions.

Scenario 3: Workcenter-Level Filtering

  1. Visual Requirements:

    • Add filters for:
      • Zone Name: Dropdown (e.g., Is East).
      • Region Name: Dropdown (e.g., Boston, Connecticut).
      • Workcenter Number: Dropdown (e.g., D5-04-02, D5-018-01).
    • Highlight work centers with unique colors for each within the selected region.

Maps used: Azure Maps ( Please suggest if any other maps works for above mentioned scenarios)

Appreciate your time and all your help. Please consider above three scenerios.

Thanks and regards

Puneeth

    Hi puneethjp

    For 1st:

    1. In the Location field: Add Zone_Name
    2. In the Legend field: Add the Zone
    3. Now in the Format your visual pane enable Bubble Layer under it enable Category Lables, this will display the Zone_Name in the map. Make changes accordingly like size and color based on your requirement (Note: Powerbi don’t have a feature to display multiple fields on same bubble on the map but it can display on the top of the visual like below sample image)
    4. To display Zone, in Format your visual pane enable Legend and it will display the Zone.
    5. In the legend under options you can set the position and under Text you can change font, size and color of Zone
    6. Below is the sample image from PowerBI, where I have selected Zone_Name as Is MidWest

    For 2nd:

    1. In the Location field: Add Region_Name
    2. In the Legend field: Add the Region
    3. In the Format your visual pane enable Bubble Layer under it enable Category Lables, this will display the Region_Name in the map and make changes accordingly like size and color based on your requirement
    4. To display Region, in Format your visual pane enable Legend and it will display the Region.
    5. In the legend under options you can set the position and under Text you can change font, size and color of Zone
    6. Below is the sample image from PowerBI, where I have selected Zone_Name as Is East, Region_Name as Boston and Region as D1-10

    For 3rd:

    1. In the Location field: Add Workcenter Number
    2. In the Legend field: Add the Region and make the above changes.
    3. Below is the sample image

    Hi puneethjp

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

    For scenario 1:
    1. Add the Maps Visual to your Power BI report from the visualizations pane.

    • In the Location field: Use the ZipCode
    • In the Legend field: Use the Zone_Name column to color-code the zones
    • In the Tooltips: Add fields like Region_Name or Zone for additional context when hovering over a location.
    1. Now add a slicer in the report and in the field name add Zone_Name
    2. Format the slicer as a dropdown.
    3. So, when a user selects a zone (e.g., Is West), the map will filter to show only locations corresponding to that zone, with the associated colors.
    4. Below is the sample image from PowerBI, where I have selected all the zone’s

The map will highlight zones with unique colors, dynamically updating based on the selected zone.

    For Scenario 2:

In Power BI, there is no direct option to dynamically highlight selected regions with unique colors and show unselected regions with different shades based on dropdown filters. So we can't differentiate selected vs unselected regions.

    For Scenario 3:

    1. Add different Slicer’s for Zone_Name, Region_Name, workcenternumber

    2. Add the Map Visual and in the fields:

    • Location: Add ZipCode field
    • Legend: Add workcenternumber field (this will assign unique colors to each work center.).
    • Tooltip: Add Region, Zone_Name
      3. Now from the slicer’s, filter for Zone_Name, Region_Name and workcenternumber, it will dynamically update the Maps visual with each work center uniquely highlighted.

These steps will enable dynamic filtering and unique highlighting of work centers on Azure Maps.

This approach should meet your requirements. If this post helps, then please consider Accepting it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly, don't forget to give a "Kudos" – I’d truly appreciate it!

  • v-achippa Thank you for your time in answering the questions. But, if you look at the images i shared
1 st visual had 4 zones: East west etc along with numders D1, D2 should be displayed. (The challenge is how to replicate  just the zones in the first scenario)

2 nd  when i select east (zone): Repective map should point to east, then display respective details as show in image (  not the tooltips)
3 rd when i select east (zone): Repective map should point to east, then display respective details as show in image ( work center show up upfront, not the tooltip )

Note; We are not looking for tooltips.  We are using Azure maps now. Open to work with other maps  tooif it solves the purpose.

The challenge is how to replicate  just the zones in the first scenario, then similary cases proceeds to next ones.
