TOTALYTD not working

No matter what I try, I can't get a simple cumulative sum using TOTALYTD to work. I've read the dozend or so other threads with the same issue but nothing helped so far. Total YTD always just shows the value from the amount column:

When I create a visual using Calendar[Date] vs Data[Total YTD] it just displays the sum for each month:

What am I missing here?

  • Hi 3rdcycle,

The question is that you are making a YTD column, you must use the TOTALYTD as a measure, there is a big difference in making the use of the formula in a column or in a measure based on it's context.

Create a new measure with the same formula and add it to your visuals and should give the expected results.

Thanks! This works, even though I could swear I saw a video where someone added a cumulative sum column using TOTALYTD.

The only problem now is that my Calendar contains future dates causing TOTALYTD to compute results all the way to the end of the year instead of to today (as the name would imply). Any solution for this?

        Hi 3rdcycle,

The TOTALYTD does not compute until the end of the year computer from the beginning of the year until the selected date what usually happens is that if your data finish in July and you have your visuals until December the August till December will always show the same value.

Don't understand what is your question.
