Hi,
I am trying to make a sunburst chart using the below add-on
I have the data in Excel, imported to PowerBI. When I create the sunburst in Excel, this is what it shows like (and how I want it to show) - as you can see, when there are blanks in the next layer, it doesn't show a blue segment (e.g. Layer 6 only has 1 blue segment)
When using the PowerBI add-on, it shows differently (it shows all of the blanks as a segment) like this:
Do you know how I can make it look like the excel one instead?
The Table is 7 columns (6 layers + a values column)
Example below:
| Structure Level 1 | Structure Level 2 | Structure Level 3 | Structure Level 4 | Structure Level 5 | Structure Level 6 | Values |
| name1 | name2 | name3 | name4 | name5 | name6 | 6 |
| name1 | name7 | name8 | name9 | name10 | 5 | |
| name1 | name11 | name12 | name13 | 4 | ||
| name1 | name4 | name14 | 3 |
In Excel this would show as 6 Layers:
But in PowerBI it would have 4 segments for all 6 layers
I have tried filtering out the Blanks in PowerBI, but it removes the whole slither from the chart
Any help would be appreciated, let me know if you need clarification on anything

Hi @louiem1998 ,
The Sunburst custom visual in Power BI is similar to the one in Excel, but there are some differences due to the distinct features and capabilities of each tool. In Power BI, the Sunburst chart is used to visualize hierarchical data, depicted by concentric circles. The circle in the center represents the root node, with the hierarchy moving outward from the center. It’s like a multilevel donut chart, used for showing hierarchical data. However, unlike Excel, Power BI has more customization options for the Sunburst chart. For example, you can adjust the formatting options, add interactivity, and save and share your customized chart.
