Storytelling - Show as Saved Image (Poor Image Resolution)

Hello All,

 

I'm using the new-ish PBI Storytelling feature in PowerPoint.  When I use the option to show the data as a saved image, instead of having a live connection back to the data source, the image is pixelated and seems to have a low resolution.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there an option in PowerPoint to change the resolution of the saved image generated by the Storytelling plugin?

    JoeCronk One of my client I also use it the same way and complained about low res, not sure if there is a solution for it except you capture the image by external tools and then embed it but that defeat the purpose.

      parry2k - After some futher testing, the issue appears to happen when you first export the report from the Power BI Service using the “Embed live data” option, and then change it to use the “Show as Saved Image” option in PowerPoint.  However, if you use the Export > PowerPoint > Embed an image option instead, it seems to provide a nice high-quality image in PowerPoint.  This obviously isn’t as slick as the other option, and requires you to export the report pages as images each time you need to provide your stakeholders with updated data.  It's odd that coverting a live connection to a saved image in PowerPoint produces a low-quality image, when it produces a high-quality image when exporting the page to an image directly out of the PBI Service.  Hopefully this is something that Microsoft will address in a future release.

    JoeCronk As I said it defeats the purpose and my client decided to move forward with embedding Power BI reports in PowerPoint which is ofcourse super nice.

      parry2k - Yes, and internally we use the live embedded reports as well.  However, in this case the reports are being shared with an external partner who doesn't have access to our tenant and the live data, so we're using the "Show as Saved Image" option to provide them with updates in PowerPoint.  It's slick because, when you want to refresh the data you just need to turn off (deselect) the option in PP to refresh the data, turn the feature back on, and then publish the deck.  Like I said, I hope that Microsoft addresses this issue with the low-res images that result from turning this feature on directly in PowerPoint.
