Stacked Bar Variance Chart
Hello,
I am working with a use case where the client wants totals for subcategories displayed in a stacked bar chart. However, they would also like the variance to be visualized on the side. Currently, we have managed to create a temporary solution using two different native visuals, but we want to try and do this all within one object.
I have looked through various tutorials and custom visuals for IBCS/variance charts that would fulfill the requirements of this case, but they are all either for use on clustered charts, stacked column, or overlapping bars. Is it possible to accomplish this objective or is it simply something that is currently not possible on PowerBI using native/custom visuals? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Hi dmriv
You can create visuals like this using power bi inbuilt python visual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_DOF_qjguA&t=10s . you will need to install python to see this on desktop or you can publish this pbix file to the service and see it in there
attached is a sample i have created for your reference

dmriv , While I would like get more details to suggest excat visual. But with Calculation Group and using a custom column on top of it as Zmall mutiples can help
More on this
Calculation Groups- Measure Slicer, Measure Header Grouping, Measure to dimension conversion. Complex Table display : https://youtu.be/qMNv67P8Go0
Calculation Groups - Use Measure with small multiple : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEn6ZnScMZc
This is a better example - Creating Clustered Stacked Bar Visuals with Calculation Groups and Measure- dmrivRegular Visitor
Thank you for your response, but this is not quite the solution that we need. To give better context, the three groups of bars in the image I provided are small multiples used within a native stacked bar chart visual, in which the stacks are based on subcategories. Then, the variance visual on the right is a separate visual. What we need to try to do is do this all within one single visual. However, it is a requirement that it be vertical and show both the stacked bar chart and variance on the right as in the example. In other words, an exact replica of the image provided but using just one visual rather than two. My question is whether this is possible as I have looked through various tutorials and custom visuals and have found solutions that fulfill one element of these requirements, but not the whole solution.
