Hi,
I am trying to type a measure into the smart narrative text box and it isn't finding ANY measures.
The preview feature is enabled. I have restarted Power Bi, and when I click Value, and type anything, it is greyed out.
Am I missing something?
I have just started using Tabular editor and am thinking this may have something to do with it as this is the only thing different.
If I just create a new pbix, add some data and try it, it is fine.
Thoughts?

I know this question was a while ago but for those reading now (like myself), I had the same issue and fixed by:
File > Options and Settings > Options
[Current File] Data Load > Check the box for Create a local index so Q&A will work with your remote model

Could you please suggest where do I get that option? I dont see any such check box like what you suggested. Using latest version - Version: 2.100.1401.0 64-bit (December 2021)
File > Options and Settings > Options
[Current File] Data Load > Check the box for Create a local index so Q&A will work with your remote model
Hi,
I was so happy to see your answer... but it doesn't work for me 😞
I think it has something to do with the fact I'm connected to a Dataset. Hence the file does not have a local copy of the data model. However, it is still possible to define local measures!
So yes, the narrative boxes I add can access the measures defined in the dataset but none of the local measures. It's a real bummer! 😞
This worked for me, thank you!
Hi,
I am having the same problem and I am NOT doing it on an empty page. It just does not recognize anything I write when manually setting up a value. Let me know if you got an answer to your issue please
Hi @Anonymous
I am also having this issue, no measures or smart Q&A style options are being suggested.
Did you find the reason or a fix?
Thanks
Mark

Yes, on an empty page, which by your question I assume it doesn't allow.
Do you need measures associated with a specific visual on the page? Or can you use any measures on a page?
If you have to have a related visual, and a related measure, I suppose I could add and then hide?

Hi @johnmelbourne ,
What's the version of Power BI Desktop? You can refer the following video and watch it from the tenth minute of the video.
How to Use the New Smart Narrative Visual (Text Box) in Power BI
