Slicer versus graphic interaction

Can someone point me to a reference that explains the difference between how a slicer interacts with a visual versus how a visual interacts with a another visual.   See the images below.  When I select Female on a slicer the precint bar graph behaves differently than when I select female on the gender bar graph.

    It seems that you're confused about the different behaviours between slicer and visual interactions.

    Normally, slicer is most like filter and visual interaction is most like highlighting, so we could understand it like this.

     Filters remove all but the data you want to focus on. Highlighting is not filtering. It doesn't remove data, but instead highlights a subset of the visible data; the unhighlighted data remains visible but dimmed.
