Slicer panels affecting bookmarks

Power BI community,

I am struggling with bookmarks. (Selected visuals vs all visuals and data)

In this report, M+0 tab is showing current month sales forecast, whereas in M+1 tab it is showing next month sales forecast.

I also have a filter pane on the right that I can filter things other than date such as

1. Forecast timing

2. FX

3. Sales amount or volume

What I struggle to achieve is,

1. When M+0 is clicked, I want all visuals to be filtered as current month date. (which I achieved by creating a bookmark with selected visuals with current month date)

2. However, now I am no longer able to change forecast timing, sales amount or volume. Filter is applied across all pages.

How can I apply only current date filter to M+0 and next month filter to M+1, which not putting restriction on other slicers?

In all of my visuals, I am selecting "selected visuals" not "all visuals"

Support much appreciated

  • hidenseek9  You can apply Visual level filters  on the watrerfall chart for current month for M0 using these options

Selected Visuals and Data. Also for M + 1 you can apply another visual level filter using the same options. Now these bookmarks will only filter the Waterfall charts and not the other slicers existing in the report.

  • Hi hidenseek9 ,

Bookmarks in Power BI can be a bit tricky, especially when you're dealing with filters and visuals that interact across pages.

Here are a few things to check and try:

    1. Visual-Level Filters
Make sure your waterfall chart has a visual-level filter applied for "Current Month" only. If the chart is picking up "Next Month" data, it’s likely that the filter is either missing or being overridden by a page or report-level filter.

    2. Bookmark Settings
When creating the bookmark, double-check that:

      • Data is checked (so it captures filter states)
      • Display is checked (so it captures visibility of visuals)
      • Current Page is selected if you're targeting a specific page

If you want to avoid capturing certain filters, you can uncheck "Data" and control filters separately using slicers or buttons.

    3. Clearing vs Hiding Filters
If you want to hide filters without removing them:

      • Use Selection Pane to hide slicers or visuals
      • Bookmarks can toggle visibility without affecting the actual filter logic
      • This way, end users won’t see the filter, but it still applies in the background
    4. Bookmark Troubleshooting Tip
Sometimes bookmarks get “stuck” with old states. Try this:

      • Clear all filters
      • Set visuals exactly how you want them
      • Then create a new bookmark from scratch (don’t update the old one)
    5. Alternative Approach
If you're trying to show multiple forecast views (e.g., current vs next month), consider using a toggle button with bookmarks that switch between two filtered states. This gives you more control and avoids overlapping filters.

Hope this helps you get it working the way you want.

I have deleted old bookmarks and made sure not slicers are syncing to one another, but somehow filters are locked or "stuck". Your feedback was a good learning. Thank you.

  • I cannot get it to work. Is there a detailed explanation on how bookmark works?

Watched lots of YouTube, but it has been quite challenging.

Before creating or updating bookmarks, clear filters and set visuals exactly as you want them. Then create a new bookmark to avoid saving unintended filter states.
