I want to add a folder data source to my gateway with a path like \\file01\thefolder
But i wont let me do it. Is this not an option?
Does it have to be a local folder on the machine where the gateway is installed?

hi,@fovesson
when you add data source which is in another machine,
you'll need to make sure these files or folder are shared and your gateway has access.
and the credential when you add the data source is the machine which your gateway is installed.

Thanks, I got it working now!
Hi@ fovesson
local folder or file do not need to on the machine where the gateway is installed, it needs to be accessed by the gateway, Whether you had set the full path correctly. You can try to refer to this article: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/My-source-is-now-in-shared-folder-which-gateway-can-create/...

Thanks for your answer @v-lili6-msft
I believe the article you are referring to is about when having a specific file as a data source. Maybe it works different.
However when I am trying to set up Folder source, not a specific file, as '\\server\folder' I get an error: [DataFormat.Error] The supplied folder path must be a valid absolute path.
