After some trial and error, I am finally able to connect Power BI Desktop to my SharePoint 2010 lists. However, there is a pretty major annoyance:
I have a SharePoint task list which includes some identity columns: Assigned To, Modified By, etc. When I connect Power BI to this list, I do not get any of these columns... instead, I get Value columns for AssignedToId, ModifiedById, etc. Basically, it looks like any column that does a lookup on another list does not pull in the values from that other list.
Can anyone verify if this is normally the case? Is there a way around this? Is this behavior going to change in future version? (pretty please)
Hi DolEgon22,
Based on my test in our environment, when we query data from the SharePoint task list, the AssignedTo and ModifiedBy columns will not display detail information. As those two columns are lookup columns, we need to query the list that provide data via those two lookup columns.
In your scenario, you can open Query Editor, then find the AssignedTo and ModifiedBy columns, then click it’s value section to open the list that provides corresponding data. Please refer to screenshots below:
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Thanks Qiuyun Yu, I am getting an Error instead of table or list or record ? ANd what does the 2 outwards arrows signifies ? Nextt to the column Name
Somewhat related, but have you guys found a way to display the select Id's for a specific column that has "allow multiple selection" enabled?
In my scenario, I have a list with a lot of column, and a few columns have options for multiselect. These columnscome through as "Table" as shown above. For single select options, they come through as "Record".
One way to get the select value, is to "Expand" that column. This however has dramatic impact in performance. Has anoyone find a good way of managing Choice columnswith multiselect enabled?
I remember reading another post in the last week saying something similar. So I assume this is standard behaviour. You should make a suggestion at ideas.powerbi.com.
