Share a Semantic Model across multiple reports

Hello,

I want to create reports that using existing Semantic model (and inherits Security and Permission setup for existing Semantice model). So I save a copy of report from "Revenue Analysis" with new name "Revenue Analysis Regional". I download the new "Revenue Analysis Regional" report to my desktop to update the visuals.

However, when I publish the new "Revenue Analysis Regional" report to Workspace, PowerBI automatically create new semantic model for Revene Analysis Regional. All existing SECURITY and PERMISSION from original "Revenue Analysis" is missing. Is it possible to publish a report from PowerBI desktop to Workspace without having new semantic model ? In other words, I want "Revenue Analysis" and "Revenue Analysis Regional" link to same single semantic model.

Hi @mbudiman ,

You need to do this with a Live Connected Data Model.

The Following screenshot shows how you can have a Live Connection to the Power BI Semantic Model. With this method, a single model that is present in the Power BI Service can be used across multiple reports

In your case, before publishing the report, click on this and change the data set to use the one present in the Power BI Service

hi @Thejeswar ,

Thank you for your advise. It works !

Have a nice day

Hello @mbudiman ,

i would add on what @Thejeswar  mentioned, is that you can also connect to specific tables for each report based on your needs.

the data will reflect from the main semantic model.
