Shape Map, Seismic Zones

Hello,

Visualization: I would like to have a map that shows the state of Nevada's seismic zones and also shows the lat/long of state-owned buildings.

I had downloaded a USGS shape file and converted it to geoJSON to use with Power BI's shape map. I can see the map with the contours but it doesn't place my buildings correctly and it loses the contour colors.

If someone could point me in a direction how to accomplish this I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Carol

Finally getting back to this. I'm able to use the ArcGIS and select the hazard map from there to show the zones. I can then place via lat/long my buildings. it is not exactly what i wanted but it will work for now. thank you for your responses.

Hi @samye228 ,
Thank you lbendlin for the helphul insights!

Yes,as lbendlin suggested,  Shape Map needs a TopoJSON file, and using the right projection (WGS 84) is key to making your buildings show up correctly. To color seismic zones, make sure your TopoJSON has a property like "ZoneType" that you may link in Power BI. If you would like to show both zones and building locations together, Azure Maps is a better fit since it supports both polygons and lat/long points with more styling options.

Hope this resolve your query. If so,consider accepting it as solution.

Thank you.

Regards,
Pallavi.

Last time I checked you needed a TopoJSON file, not GeoJSON.  Make sure to use the correct projection too.
