Separating a Date Range

Hi! I'm VERY new to Power BI, but am finding the tutorials helpful.  What I have not found how to do, however, is to split a column with a date range into the beginning and ending dates.  I pulled my data from Excel, and in Excel I would normally use a left/right text function. Not sure how to do this in Power BI.  Any help would be great. Thanks!

      awillem  if you want an equivilent to LEFT and RIGHT, when you edit queries (Query Editor), there are functions called Text.Start and Text.End which will work identically to left and right.  Perhaps that will help?

       

      If you are unsure how this would work.  Find your query (what will become your table).  Add a new step to create a Custom Column, found under the 'Add Column' area of the ribbon.  Here you can type your formula in with Text.Start and you can make use of the field picker on the right to help get the formatting correct.
