Send notification to subscribers while the dashboard is updated/refreshed (as no update in dataset)

Dear all

I am wondering that if I can get subscribers to know that I update and upload a new edition or report to the Power BI service automatically by email.

While building a new dashboard, I will have to adjust the layout, add or take out a chart, move visuals around, etc. almost every day, and I would like to let my co-workers know that I made some changes in the Power BI desktop and uploaded a new edition for preview to the Power BI service in time.

Right now, what I can do is to send them an email with a new link (if I change the version in the file name), it is a little bit distractive.

Thank you for your advice in advance!

  • I haven't tried this, but your question gives me an idea. There is an alert feature in dashboards. You can create a card in a report, pin it to a dashboard and then set an email alert based on the value of the card. You will need a repeatable process. I'm thinking you write a measure that hard codes the version date (at UTC). You write another measure that calculates how many days old the version is. 0 for created today, 1 for Yesterday Etc. This will need to use UTCNOW() to work out today's date. Add it to a card and set an alert (once per day) for when the card = 0.

I'm not sure it it will work, but you could try.
