Semantic models for PowerBI Gen2 Premium Dataset must be authored in which tool ?
Now that Power BI premimum gen2 has been made available . I wanted to know which tool must be used to build semantic model now given that Azure Analysis services data models are moving towards Power BI dataset.
Normally we used to build tabular AS models in Visual studio or external tools like Tabular editor. But now we have Power PI Premium Gen2 Dataset as the data model ,we want to know what should be used ?
Hi, Anonymous
You can check the following Client applications and tools that connect to and work with datasets on Premium Gen2 capacities through the XMLA endpoint .
Visual Studio with Analysis Services projects
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Analysis Services Deployment Wizard
Tabular Editor
ALM Toolkit .....Best Regards,

Below is the link which says one can use PowerBI Desktop to author a project and you have not specified in your recommendation PowerBI . So then PowerBI desktop should not be used at all author large semantic models?

Development scenarios
The choice between Power BI Desktop and Visual Studio should be made at the very beginning of a project, because it is not possible to switch between them once a project has begun. While this might not seem an issue at the beginning of a small project, the switch might become necessary at a more advanced development stage. Tabular Editor is more neutral from this point of view and can be used at any time of the development cycle. A few examples can clarify the previous statements.
