Hello everyone,
I would like to understand the behaviour of the filters when the selection in a segmentation doesn't clear the selection in another segmentation.
Here an example:
There are two segmentation visuals.
Two segmentations with A,B,C,D values
The first field affects to the second because the relationship between tables is in one direction.
Field1 filters Field2
When some values are selected in "Field2", nothing happens to Field1 (it is correct so far).
Field2 doesn't filter Field1
However, now if a value of Field1 is selected, the values on Field2 remain selected.
Selections on Field2 are kept after new Field1 value is selected
This is very confusing because when the users check the selected values on Field2, they see "B" and "C" are selected. However, there is no data represented on the report.
I would really appreciate if you could suggest any workaround to avoid this situation.
Thank you!
@Anonymous Can you not make your relationship Both?
Hi, thanks for your answers.
@amitchandak the same behaviour occurs with the methodology of the video.
@Greg_Deckler no, it is not possible because the first filter is some kind of menu, where the users select a category and then they see the products belonging to this category. If I make the relation in both directions, the users will not be able to change the category when a product is selected (unless the second filter is cleared, but it won't happen).
@Anonymous - So sounds like pick your poison quite honestly. You don't like it either way. The one way, this doesn't happen. The other way, this does happen and you don't like either? Sounds lik quantuum computing to me, you need trinary logic to make you happy. 🙂
I'll try to come up with something creative but don't get your hopes up. Maybe you could get there if you implemented Apply filters button? Ah, no, you probably wouldn't like that either based upon past history. Joking.
@Anonymous , The value remains selected something there with power BI.
Are Field and field two are part of the Hierarchy Parent-child, Field1 is the parent.
I doubt this applies here but refer if the video can help you filter. If uses measure from fact as a filter in both visual.
